Flooding the Zone: The Bannon Playbook Governing British Politics – Byline Times

  1. This is the core of political discourse now. They send out so much into the public sphere that there can’t be a consistent narrative.

Trouble is, what’s the solution? A news outlet that stays incredibly focused, and keeps reminding it’s readers of some core events or concepts. That only reports the things that tangibly matter?

That sounds great on paper, but that’s not how people consume the news. When they’re done reading something the move onto the next thing. If the news site has nothing else new they go to another news site.

They then get hooked on websites that constantly produce an endless supply of news content, regardless of relevancy (Facebook, Reddit).

Really, Bannon et al have hacked the habit of Doom-scrolling. People don’t stop reading the news until they’re sick of the news. So make sure they don’t have anything to take away from the experience, at least nothing useful.

  2. Some of us have been saying that Bannon is a danger to our democracy since 2015 at least. That he coached Johnson, Farage and Trump, was bankrolled by Putin didn’t seem to be a concern to many and would get you called any number of wonderful sobriquet.
