AI technology is changing senior care, boasting a significant reduction in falls at Park Senior Villas – La Cañada. Helpany’s AI-powered radar device Paul has helped caregivers to reduce falls by 67% in three consecutive months.

Park Senior Villas implemented the Paul devices to identify at-risk residents by analyzing their motion patterns and providing real-time preventive notifications to caregivers. This cutting-edge technology empowers caregivers to detect changes in residents’ conditions early, helping them prevent potential falls.

As a result, more than 180 proactive care interventions recorded during 90 days.

“The safety and well-being of our residents is our top priority,” said Christina Ryan, chief executive officer of Park Senior Villas. “Implementing Helpany’s Paul device has been a game-changer, enabling us to provide proactive, around-the-clock care without compromising privacy.”

Sandro Cilurzo, Helpany’s chief executive officer, said he strives to be proactive inside of reactive.

“With the right technology, we can achieve that,” Cilurzo said. “By identifying risks early, caregivers can provide timely assistance, enhancing resident outcomes while easing the burden on staff.

“While the success of Helpany is undeniable, experts emphasize that caregivers play the primary role in keeping seniors safe. Effective fall prevention requires a holistic approach, including attentive care, environmental modifications and proactive health monitoring.”

Red flags that indicate a senior may need more care include:

Unexplained weight loss: This could indicate underlying health concerns such as malnutrition or illness.

Difficulty standing or walking: Despite AI monitoring, mobility issues can increase the risk of falls and require physical therapy or assistive devices.

Restlessness at night: Persistent poor sleep leads to significant fatigue, impaired balance and slower cognitive responses, dramatically increasing the likelihood of falls.

Inactivity: Prolonged sedentary behavior and minimal activity are putting seniors at a much higher risk of falls, reducing the overall strength, balance and mobility.

Declining gait speed: A slow gait or reduced walking distance may signal an increased risk of falling.

Social withdrawal or mood changes: Isolation can lead to mental health concerns and a decreased quality of life.

“Since implementing Helpany, our caregivers have been able to respond faster and more effectively to residents’ needs. This has not only improved resident safety but also eased the workload for our staff by enabling more proactive care,” said Liesen Clemons, general manager of Park Senior Villas – La Cañada.

Helpany’s AI system is proving successful in Tucson and seeing impressive results at Fellowship Square Mesa, where falls have dropped by 70% in just two months. The technology is gaining traction across senior living communities, offering a privacy-first approach that prioritizes dignity and safety.

One of the unique advantages of Paul is its ability to provide continuous, non-intrusive monitoring, giving caregivers real-time insights into residents’ movements. This allows them to proactively address potential risks, respond swiftly to changes in mobility, and implement additional measures to enhance overall safety and well-being.

“The goal of AI-based technology is to enhance, not replace, the personal attention that caregivers provide,” Cilurzo said. “Paul is like a virtual caregiver supporting better decision-making and improving overall care quality.”

As AI-driven solutions evolve, the balance between technology and hands-on care will remain crucial. While Paul is helping revolutionize fall prevention, it is not a substitute for comprehensive senior care. Families and caregivers should stay vigilant for signs that a loved one may need additional support beyond what technology can provide.
