Tariffs to Bring Manufacturing Back? A Mistake: Smart would be to Build on U.S. Trade Surplus in Services, focusing on Education, Research, Universities, Innovation, Etc.

  1. Bringing manufacturing back helps our economy. It isn’t mutually exclusive from a service-based offering.

  2. My armchair bro economist take:

Tariffs are just pissing off the rest of the world and leading them to say “you know what? Fuck you America, we will make it to where we don’t need you sorry bastards any more…enjoy fascism” and they’ll figure out a way where they can tell us to fuck ourselves…

  3. And that’s exactly what the US has been doing since the 80’s! Wait…

  4. [An archived version so you can read it.](https://archive.ph/ln6Xt)

“Services” is such a nebulous term.

[ Zakaria](https://archive.ph/o/ln6Xt/https://www.washingtonpost.com/people/fareed-zakaria/) is going to leave all manufacturing to China I guess. They have nearly 1/3 of the world’s manufacturing capability now. With the US Oligarchy planning on a war with China in the next several years, who’s going to be left to manufacture anything for the USA?

A few things that are defined as services include: Education, Design, Research

One can easily make an argument that China is rapidly surpassing the USA in these 3 services. Yeah, iPhones may be designed in Cupertino, but Huawei makes excellent phones. The market for Huawei phones is multiples of the iPhone. Huawei has deployed 5G throughout China (and other places throughout the world) and is working on 6G.

China has made some huge advancements in research with Deep Seek 6 at 1/1000th the cost of US AI. Their space station developed a niobium/silicon alloy that will allow for much more efficient jet engines. China dominates in most areas of technology.

Chinese education has dramatically improved and rivals or exceeds that of the USA. Education isn’t a profit center for the Chinese so students can graduate to pursue their interests rather than paying off their student loans.

China has designed container ports that are 100% automated –using Huawei designed and manufactured communications equipment.

The technofeudalists aren’t stupid. They see the problem. Trump is retreating to “Fortress America” but it is too late.

Zakaria is advocating that Americans just give one another hair cuts.

  5. This is the US, people. ‘Murica. We’re not big on education anymore, and why should we pay for research? Don’t these tards know that Rogan is on the YouTube? There’s all the research we need, our own research.

  6. A coordinated approach would have built the infrastructure/resources at the same time and rate as we restricted foreign supply, but that would have taken cooperation and intelligence.

  7. But Trump wants to make the economy great with back breaking work and not the smart kind.

  8. Holy crap. Trump is forcing people to adopt common sense. Good show!

  9. No, no they’ve got it all wrong. Sounds like they’ve been infected by the woke virus.

  10. Trump doesn’t do smart. Peter Navarro doesn’t do smart!

  11. Maga and smart are two word that can’t go in the same sentence.
