  1. >She said, “When I get prepared for an event, 90 percent of the time I’m just like, ‘I just hope I can take the picture and sit down.’ ” While Gomez said she tries not to look at Internet comments, “So many different things that come up in my face, that I can’t help but see … I fall victim to looking at at things.”

    >The Emilia Pérez star continued, “It’s the character that gets judged: It’s the way I’m not white enough, I’m not Mexican enough … nobody cares about those kind of things with men.”

    >“My weight’s a big one too,” she continued. “Everyone just has something to say and it’s really making me sad and — not even sad ‘cause, I’m not a victim, everyone — I just think it’s made me a tad bitter and I feel really guilty for saying that but it’s true.”

    >As the “You Said You Were Sorry” singer has shared, the medication she takes for her chronic autoimmune disorder, lupus, can cause her weight to fluctuate. “I would rather be healthy and take care of myself. My medications are important, and I believe that they’re what helps me,” Gomez has said. “Not a model, never will be. And I think they’re awesome, mind you. I’m just definitely not that.”

  2. That isn’t really accurate. I’ve seen Brendan Frasier, Vin Diesel, Russell Crow, Val Kilmer, Jonah Hill, Leonardo DiCarprio, Matt Damon, and many many other popular male actors get dragged online for being out of shape.

  3. People literally call her boyfriend ugly on a regular basis

  4. I understand what she is saying, but this isn’t accurate at all.
Everyone gets commented about their weight, both women and men. Whether they are too skinny/fragile looking or too fat. Just to name a few I remember people commenting on Jonah Hill, Brendan Frasier, Haley Joel Osment, and Taylor Lautner(Twilight). Also not too long ago people kept commenting online about Chadwick Boseman appearance saying he was too skinny and mocking him months before his passing.

But I do agree that for some reason women get targeted the most over their appearance and weight, just a bit more than men.

  5. Sure, that’s why every male action actor is taking steroids. Zac Effron almost quit Hollywood over what he had to do for Baywatch.

No doubt women have it much worse with scrutiny over their bodies but it’s not unique to them.

  6. Chadwick boseman would disagree, but he unfortunately cant.

  7. She has never come close to being anything near an unhealthy weight. She should be bitter. It’s ridiculous. They only people commenting on her weight are very sad pathetic people who have no life.

  8. I hate it when a celebrity makes the statement “I hate when something is done to me cause nobody does it to the other gender”. Literally happens on both fronts all the time, makes them sound so out of touch, plain ignorant, and wanting a good ol poor you from the viewers.

  9. Haha. I’ll never forget 2020 when Zac Efron put on a few pounds and suddenly “dad bod” was trending.

  10. *remembers people calling Jesse Plemons “Fat Damon” when he gained some weight*

  11. Men get harassed for being obese/overweight just as much as women do. Fuck off

  12. It’s not that men aren’t subject to weight ridicule, it’s that they typically care less about it. Or, give the appearance they care less. Women, on the other hand, tend to be more aware and reactive about their weight and comments about it.

It’s the same with penis size and men… men are way more concerned about their penis size than woman usually are.

  13. Lol is she assuming men aren’t body shamed too?

    Be fucking for real.

  14. Guess she forgets about a lot female comments on men’s height.

  15. Honestly, I’ve seen more people joke about a man’s weight to his face than I’ve ever seen anyone do to a woman.

  16. Not trying to sound misogynistic, but guys also get made fun of all the damn time. Things said about you just hit harder and you notice a lot more.

  17. Hi. Skinny guy here. People still care. For some stupid fucking reason

  18. This really doesn’t need to be a male vs female thing. Can’t we just say body shaming is not nice? And if we get into who it’s cooler to *joke* about body shaming over, it’s men with a bullet. And men are NOT allowed to complain about it or else they get a whole bunch of other shit coming their way.

  19. These comments make me happy that more people are aware of the shit men take too. I say this as a mom with a son. People suck

  20. That statement is not true at all. Anytime a man isn’t fit in movies he’s thought of as “overweight”

  21. As everyone else is noting, people talk about this stuff with men all the time.

Secondly, I think what’s particularly irritating about this is it a large part of Selena Gomez’s success is based on the fact that she’s beautiful. I mean, I can just say the words Spring Breakers and you all can picture the bikini. Which is fine. Good for her! But you don’t get to exploit your looks to become successful and then complain that people care about your looks.

  22. many others have pointed it out before, but if male actors have to go shirtless, they’re either jacked up like no normal person is, or they’re normal and get hated on for not being in shape enough lol

also (i know everyone already mentioned it) her fiancé gets shit on for his looks all the time.

  23. Luka Doncic, Jonah Hill, Russell Crowe, Christian Bale, Matthew Mcconaughey, people comment on celebrity men’s weight change a lot

  24. All these women can’t just leave it at “nobody should care” it’s always the gender victim card.
Plentyyyyy of men are body shamed or deeply insecure.

  25. Plot twist: most of the “comments” are probably from women …

  26. Remember when Jonah Hill straight up asked interviewers to stop bringing up his weight? Chris Pratt comes to mind too. Can we stop with this gendered nonsense already?
