European countries don’t buy gas directly from Russia, they buy gas from intermediary distribution companies and the contracts with those companies are in euros.
If Putin wants to be payed in rubles, that’s the Russian distribution companies problem.
Putin really tries to push the EU to alternative sources of power. As a Saudi dude said – the stone era doesn’t end because of the lack of stones.
