How do you solve a navy staffing crisis? Scrap 1/3 of the fleet!
I joke of course, the 3 of them are all long in the tooth and would probably be facing the cutting torch even if they were crewed. Shame to see some of the last Irish built ships on the way out though.
>Among the proposals was the operation of a 12-ship navy which could “provide the Naval Service with maritime capabilities for defending the State from a conventional military attack”.
This gave me a giggle – not sure what 12 fisheries patrol vessels would manage to do in the face of an aggressive and well equipped navy…
I like the deal navy authority made sold one to Danes for 110k e and vessel been sold twice reach 1.3m to Libya and been used in conflict. Have good advice Poland need badly vessel they buy all these for 3m easily and they don’t be used in Middle East conflicts
3 ships to be decommissioned as we get 3 new ships. Bit dishonest to imply it’s due to staffing issues
And to be replaced by a Cork fishing fleet.
I didnt realise a good few of the ships had already been sold and are gone.
LE Aisling is now living it up in Libya and has been renamed “Al-Kamara”
We have a pathetic navy for an island nation.
As an island nation we should be ashamed of the state of our so called ”Naval service” they should receive the largest funding followed by the air corps.
