Time to introduce the rest of the EU to the ultimate Irish survival kit. A 12 pack of Tayto and a Brennans pan loaf.
Having a go bag ready is always helpful, can help in numerous emergencies other than just a war. Unexpected hospital visits, having to leave home for the threat of natural disaster, house fire causing evacuation.
I don’t agree with the fear mongering but I guess looking at it is better than looking for it if it does happen.
The government already sorted us for this, I’ve got my iodine tablet packed and ready to go!
But where do we get the iodine tablets?
If my calculations are correct, that’s 42 cans
Irish person: “So, three loaves of bread?”
We had ‘civil defence’ kits growing up abroad where natural disasters were not unheard of.
Water – minimum of 3L per person per day, for at least 3 days but aiming for 7 days
First aid kit
Solar/battery/wind up radio and torches
Charging cables
Hand sanitizer and wet wipes
Food including pet food
Store it in a bucket with a lid (to be repurposed as a toilet if necessary)
(This was one of the countries I lived in where we had a kit. I remembered it from the printed phone book delivered to homes in ‘the old days’. Standard disclaimer that not all recommendations in the link apply to Ireland)
A normal public service broadcaster would have told us what the twelve recommended items for these kits are
Ad they said the preppers were mad
Have found a decent power bank really useful during a power cut and while travelling. Would be on my list for sure. You can get larger cube type ones as well as very portable ones.
Add teabags to that and we’ll sit it out. Be grand!
I have my 25 year old iodine tablets somewhere, I’ll be OK
I’ve kept five loaves of batch loaf in my go bag since Y2K. It needs to be replaced every week but you can’t put a price on peace of mind.
Von Der Leyen needs the peasants to be frightened. Essential for her plan to transfer state spending from schools and hospitals to tanks and shells. Don’t forget – Rheinmetal shares have only jumped 400% in the last few years. That can go to 5-600 …
Plus the frightened citizens will not get in the way of her support for Israeli genocide in Gaza.

Have had a bag since before covid filled with stuff to get you through power cuts, no water, no heating, and a little camp stove for using in our fireplace.
Missus thought I was mad, but we have had to dip into it a few times and make the world of difference when those things go wrong.
I grew up on an island off the coast of Vancouver and everyone had something like this in their car or in their house. Even at elementary school we were taught about these kind of kits and what to put in them. It wasn’t for war or preparing for the worst; it was just to add towards your survival if you’re ever left without any of your basic human rights.
I’m going to be honest, here: I’m not going to do this.
Because I know exactly what will happen. It’ll get chucked in under the stairs or into the shed, out of the way, and then be forgotten about until five years later when we dig it out and half the stuff in it is expired or has perished and is useless.
I have too much going on to remember to check / restock a survival bag every 12 months. I’m usually overprepared for things, but tbh I live in Dublin and always have. I am not at risk of war, flood or extended power outages. If my house goes on fire, grabbing an emergency bag will be my last priority after the kids and the animals and my guitars.
I’m aware that’s a privilege, but I’ve never found myself wishing I had packed an emergency bag, and I don’t think I ever will.
Spread fear, so people won’t have time to protest for the actual problems.
For those not paying attention and for those that use the term “fear mongering”, etc. Experts on defense and national security all over Europe believe there’s a reasonable chance there will be some sort of conflict in the next few years. $800 billion doesn’t get spent on defense by largely left leaning social states without solid information behind it.
My guess is the French secret services found something and then briefed the main states on the raw intelligence in person at their emergency meeting in Paris (Stamer looked like he’d seem s ghost for about 3 days), then gave the high level briefings to the other states.
It’s annoying that they mention houses should stock up on a dozen items but then don’t name any of the items.

FYI 3 day BOB kit has 2 packs Cheese & Onion and 1 package Salt & Vinegar (for sharing) plus half pound of butter.
Me ma still has the iodine tablets from the 90s and a multipack of king, were grand so

Koka noodles
Tinned tuna
Tinned beans
Vitamin tablets
Tea
Basically what I ate in college so, I’ll just be missing rich tea biscuits and microwave popcorn
