Russia launched strikes on the port city of Mykolaiv, 40 miles upriver from the Black Sea in southern Ukraine, on Tuesday night as President Trump admitted that the Kremlin may be trying to delay signing a full truce with Ukraine.
The White House had announced a Black Sea ceasefire that the Kremlin said later was conditional on sanctions against Russian agricultural companies and one of its biggest banks being lifted.
Russia also targeted Kryvyi Rih, President Zelensky’s home city, in what officials said had been the biggest drone attack against the city. No casualties were reported in either attack
… we know, Donald 😑
Trump clearly has an infatuation with Putin whether it be because he’s a strongman and/or he feels they share a bond because of the investigations into Russian election interference, so it will be interesting to see what it would take for Trump to break ranks with Putin in terms of policy and rhetoric.
Also I wonder whether that would create a civil war inside the administration between Trump and Project 2025.
The Atlantic Yemen story shows that Vance (who I’d associate with Project 2025) already feels as though Trump’s foreign policy is at odds with their rhetoric around Europe and freeloading.
Vance and Project 2025’s problem is that they’re deeply ideological whereas Trump isn’t, it’s a marriage of convenience in a lot of ways and I wonder how that survives potentially divergent agendas.
You don’t have the cards Donnie.
This is why I didn’t get all the opposition to Trump trying to negotiate peace, once Zelenskyy signed off on the plan and the ball went back to Russia’s court and the narrative went back to Russia being difficult and in practice Ukraine conceded nothing. It was a single inconsequential hoop to jump through and sloppy diplomacy by Zelenskyy. Two weeks without US intelligence and material support because Ukraine insisted on a condition of a security guarantee in a ceasefire, not peace a ceasefire, two steps later in a hypothetical negotiation. They conceded it after two weeks and now we are back to square one with US sharing aid and intelligence and Putin the obtuse party
Had some cards but misplayed the hand.
