Fortnite’s fast-paced FPS mode, Ballistic, is back with its second major update and it packs quite a punch. With v34.20 rolling out on March 25, players can expect key weapon balance changes, credit economy adjustments, gameplay fixes, and even a sneak peek at a brand-new map, Hammer Fall, slated for release on April 8.
A new map ‘Hammer Fall’
The most exciting announcement in this update is the first new Ballistic map since launch. Hammer Fall, inspired by medieval castles, introduces vertical spires and tight combat lanes for intense close-quarter battles. While the map will initially launch as a “shell” without environmental art, this approach allows Epic Games to quickly act on player feedback and tweak the layout before polishing the visuals later.
Set to drop with the v34.30 update, Hammer Fall is expected to change how players strategize around verticality and cover-heavy corners.
Key weapon balance changes
Several popular weapons have undergone fine-tuning:
On the economy front, the Reaper Sniper Rifle gets a price drop from 4700 to 4500 Credits, while the Striker AR and Nemesis AR each see a bump from 2500 to 2700. The Drum Gun sees a slight reduction, now priced at 3200.
Epic Games continues to emphasize player feedback. Based on recent surveys and community chatter, players have asked for:
Epic confirmed a surrender option is in development, and changes are also planned to highlight which player holds the Rift Point Device. Further HUD and UI/UX improvements are under consideration.
The update also addresses several gameplay bugs, from unreliable mantling mechanics to Rift Point Device interaction issues. Notable fixes include improved smoke grenade visuals, proper recon grenade feedback, and better animations for weapons and planting sequences.
Console players can also expect smoother gadget selection, while visual quirks like camera jitter and disappearing scopes have been ironed out.
With Hammer Fall on the horizon and smoother gameplay across the board, Fortnite Ballistic is gearing up for an exciting April.
