Germany, UK update US travel advice after citizens detained • FRANCE 24 English

Germany has updated its travel advisory for the United States to emphasise that a visa or entry waiver does not guarantee entry for its citizens after several Germans were detained at the border recently, a foreign ministry spokesperson said. Britain has also in recent weeks revised its advice for citizens travelling to the United States to include a warning that anyone found breaking its entry rules could face arrest or detention.

  6. This will get worse for you. It’s not just Trump and his thugs, too many Americans actually feel disdain for Europeans and Canadians. Not all of us, just too many. Europe and Canada can continue to solidify friendship and keep tourist economies vibrant by incentivizing mutual tourism. I’d include Mexico, respectful people who are appreciative guests as well as gracious hosts to visitors. They don’t trust gringos much (Aye, Mexico, so far from God, so close to the United States) but Europeans and Canadians are most welcome. Actually, I’ve always wondered why you’d want to come here in the first place. Maybe a music pilgrimage? History of slavery curious? I’ve lived in Europe and Mexico for many combined years, thank you all sincerely for your hospitality, but, friends, just stay clear of here for a long while.

  8. All travelers need to have their visas and passports in order. As a flight attendant we have deported/ transported many back to their departure country , because with improper documentation. This has gone on for years.

  11. Google the case of Lucas Sielaff.
    He did NOT have a visa, but tried to re-enter with visa waiver (together with his fiancé who is a US citizen).
    A German who has a US fiancé and enters via visa waiver from Mexico was suspicious enough to warrant some questions.
    When asked where he lives, he answered "Las Vegas".
    That basically guaranteed that he would get into trouble.

  13. I'm a US Army Military Police veteran who served in West Germany in the late 1970s, and I'm very much ashamed that my countrymen reelected Donald Trump. I did not vote for him because I knew he would hurt our allies worse than in his first term.

  25. Take it one step further for everyone traveling put tracking chips in passports . Charge outrageous fees for lost stolen documents. You must have it everywhere you go . stop the political games.

  30. I read about one german guy. Schmidt and his mother moved to the US from Germany in 2007 and got permanent resident cards the following year. He renewed his legal permanent residence status last year…. How came. You must renew your green card every ten years.
    Her mother said that he had faced misdemeanour charges about 10 years ago. It is explained why he did not renew his green card when Tramp was president, and it is strange why he was capable renew his green card at all. If you break the low you can lost your permanent status in US.

  33. Looking in from South Africa behind the apparent psycho theatrics and MAGA smoke screen it's clear that Trump's a Russian asset. If the West had doubts initially they by now, given recent hysteria by trump at home and abroad, would've found confirmation. Trump has humiliated Europe as he'd done to South Africa. So we now stand with the American nation against their traitor president. Europe likewise need help rid America and the world of this manic traitor.

  35. Most of these are from over stayers who then try to renew, in the case of the Canadian actress her visa expired last November. These are making the news but are a daily occurrence when people don't know the rules and think it will be fine. it wont be

  39. This is absolutly insane. I empatize with those that were held or denied entry in the US as well as those being forced to leave American after being apart of the American tapestry. No pity for the those that voted for this.
    Whatever the grand plan is for the wealthy & powerful, it doesn't look promising those that are not. Americans should be fearful of being like Russia and not being able to end this ride after 4 years or sooner. I hope that we are not harshly judge or held accountable for these atrocities when we visit other countries. Hold on tight, we are in for a turbulant & perilous journey.

    The world's most powerful market for tourism is about to come to an end. It takes some serious number crunching to realize how much damage $2.36 trillion dollars taken out of the US economy will do to the country.

  42. Detained when she went to reapply? Was she over her visa already and therefore illegal in our country by any chance? What was the reason for the german guy?

    The absence of that very basic "why did they say they detained you?" question has the ole spider sense tingling that these arent random harassment but rather stricker enforcement of the existing rules. Also refusing to let people into your country due to their speech is par for the course, how many people have been banned for "hate speech" by "civilized" western countries?

  47. Reapplying for a work Visa could mean she didn’t have a current Visa. I don’t know why they suspected him, I think he was passing through to Germany from Mexico. I guess they suspect anyone coming from Mexico because of the drug dealers, etc
