I’m just watching the news tonight about [Putin’s decree on payments for gas and oil](https://www.dw.com/en/russia-gas-payments-must-be-made-via-russian-bank-accounts/a-61319393). It seems to me that this will cause an energy crisis especially in the amount of gas, benzine and diesel available in the short-term in Germany, if not in the price. Although I know the current government is working overtime to find new source energy suppliers, this is chickens from the last 20 years coming home to roost.
This evening I have asked myself what can I do to reduce the amount of gas and benzine that I use. I don’t want to sound evangelical but I think this is a question we can all ask ourselves. Solidarity with Ukraine is coming into our living rooms.
My responses have and will be
* Turning all radiators in my appartment to the frost setting. Notwithstanding the weather in the north of Germany today, I don’t expect frost at this time of year.
* A pledge to myself not to drive faster than 100 whenver I have to use my car. And to support a TEMPORARY enegry speed limit of 100 on all roads.
* I will use public transport whenever it is possible and change my lifestyle to make it possible.
* Get a couple of warm pullovers out from the winter clothes box – they may be needed for longer this year.
I’m not trying to say this would be right for everyone. But I do think this is a point-in-time when we should all ask ourselves, what can I do?
I look forward to an interesting discussion with a variety of suggestions and hope we can keep it civilized.
