According to analytical website Football Meets Data, which assessed the chances of all European national teams to advance to next year’s tournament, Slovak footballers have 49 percent chance of placing second in their group behind Germany, which has 84 percent chance of winning it. For comparison, Slovakia has only 11 percent chance of finishing first in its group.

The winners of all 12 qualifying groups automatically advance to the World Cup.

If Slovakia were to finish second, it would advance to the play-offs with the other 11 teams that finished second for the chance to win one of the remaining four spots for European teams.

The analysts say that Northern Ireland is the other contender for the second place, with its chance being 26 percent.

The fourth team in the group A is Luxembourg, the chances of which the analysts project to be 1 percent of winning the group and 13 percent to place second.
