GRAND FORKS – University of North Dakota President Andy Armacost will interview a top Air Force official at a Washington, D.C., summit next week.

Armacost will sit down with Lt. Gen Adrian Spain to discuss national security issues at the Association of Defense Communities’ national summit on Tuesday at 2 p.m.

Spain is the Air Force’s deputy chief of staff for operations, a position he has held since December.

“I am excited to bring our speaker series to Washington and grateful to have Lt. Gen. Spain join us to discuss important developments in national security and how universities can continue to partner to assist in the nation’s defense,” read a statement attributed to Armacost in a UND press release.

The conversation is the second such discussion Armacost has hosted since the beginning of the 2024-25 school year, when he interviewed retired Air Force Gen. Lori Robinson on UND’s campus.

A retired brigadier general and dean at the United States Air Force Academy, Armacost plans to host biannual discussions with national security experts, with one taking place in Grand Forks and another in the nation’s capital.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
