Hey 🙂

I found old threads about users trying (successfully) to setup the DNS server they wanted into their Salt router. Mainly in order to be able to use PiHole (or AdGuard) AFAIU. Unfortunately, some of the links in these threads are now dead and I cannot figure out how they achieved to reach their goal.

I'm currently trying to setup AdGuard on my LAN. It's running as a docker container on my NAS but I now need to define the IP of my NAS as the DNS server at the level of my router…. But the Salt router won't let me do that (at least not easily).

Maybe someone here is an expert and can give me advice or directions?

I understand that another option would be to purchase my own router (I like this option) and use the Salt router as a modem only. But this also doesn't look easy to setup. I don't have a "old contract" that only uses IPv4. I believe what most customers, including myself, have is "DS-Lite" or something like that but I don't even know what it means (except that it involves IPv6 in some way…). So maybe, the option of using my own router is not feasible?

If that still is an option, I'd love to get recommendations about which router to purchase. Currently, the 10GbE port of my Salt router is connected to one of the 10GbE port of my Asus XG-u2008 switch (1x 10GbE port is available). I'm not sure how I should connect the new router in my current setup (salt->new-router->switch? salt->switch->new-router? something else?).

Anyway… If you could help me with advice and opinions, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks a lot 🙂
