Sir Stephen Fry ‘chuffed to the heavens’ to receive knighthood

   *On whether the knighthood will help him progress his charity efforts, he joked: “Whether the knighthood helps in that sense, I don’t know.*

   *“Some people are glamourised by these things but if it gives me an extra ability to pound a table and suggest some law changes or things like that, then that is a marvellous advantage, no question.*

   *“Maybe in that case they should make me a duke, that would be even more impressive.”*

2. Felt a little overdue, his charity work is decades long.

3. Surprised it took this long given the work he’s done for gay rights, mental health issues, etc. over the years and his general good standing with the public. He was quite important in ramping up discussion about men’s mental health in this country with his bipolar documentary and his work with Mind.

   I know he’s not without his controversies but I would have thought it was a bit of a no-brainer to knight him even 10 years ago.

   TBH I’d knight him for Blackadder series 4 alone.

4. I love this man dearly. If anyone deserves to be recognised for everything they’ve done, it’s him.

   Literal convict to knight. What a story arc. Now I want him to be PM. I’ve been saying it for 2 decades at this point but him or Hugh as PM please.

10. A lot of people wondering why this didn’t happen before. IIRC, Fry himself theorized that he would never receive the honor because he admitted to having done coke in the Buckingham palace.

    Good on him tho, he deserves it more than most.

11. I may be wrong, but wasn’t he previously a vocal Republican? Would explain why it has taken so long for him to recieve a knighthood.

13. Fry, like many, has been dead to me since I became aware of his repugnant pro zionist views. Fantastic actor but a weak and amoral man imo. This ‘award’ from Savilles best friend would seem to suggest he might be a nonce too, so yeah ‘National treasure’ 🤮

15. I once asked my friend why no-one ever uses his Sir title.. they didn’t know why either. We do now. Very well deserved

    The man is a national treasure.

20. Pleased to see that his husband was there. I was under the impression that they had gone their separate ways.

21. He’s up there with David Attenborough for celebs I’ll be upset about when they die. It’s a very small list

23. The most deserving recipient that I can recall. It was long overdue, and I’m really pleased to see his positive contributions to the world recognised.

25. I don’t know why, it’s not like it means anything anymore especially since the Queen passed.

26. And yet he’s felt like Sir Stephen Fry for years now. It just feels right.

27. I have a lot of respect for those who refuse honours.

28. I look forward to the horrific stories coming out after he dies about his grooming activities.

    I’m sorry everyone, but I knew a 16 year old who he kept as a play thing back in 2011-2012 time.
