A Belfast man wanted for questioning by Spanish authorities in connection with the murder of John George is due to face an extradition hearing on Thursday at a court in Portugal.
Jonny Smyth was arrested by police in Portugal on Tuesday.
It was reported that the 26-year-old was arrested in a holiday rental property in the city of Braga.
It is understood authorities were alerted to his whereabouts by John’s father, Billy George, who had travelled to Portugal.
Mr Smyth had been named in international arrest warrants circulated by Interpol after he left Spain following the disappearance of John George.
The 37-year-old father of-two, from west Belfast, was reported missing in Spain in December after arriving for a holiday in Alicante.
His body was found in January, and Spanish police launched a murder investigation.
Mr Smyth is expected to appear before a court in Braga.
Spanish police wish him extradited to Spain, so Mr Smyth can be questioned over Mr George’s death.
Following his disappearance, members of Mr George’s family travelled to Spain to join searches, including father Billy and John’s brother Darren.

John’s body was recovered 21 days later in a remote lemon grove near the village of Rojales. It was reported that he had suffered gunshot wounds and had been stabbed.
Following the discovery, Darren George said his family had been through a “living nightmare”.
A 32-year-old man from the Czech Republic was previously arrested by Spanish police on suspicion of murder, and has since been released on bail.
A funeral for John George was held in west Belfast last month.
