cool cool cool
Isn’t the US the best way to study the foundations of facism?
He is lucky he has the ability to do so unfortunately many cant.
I read his book, [How Fascism Works: The Politics of Us and Them](https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/586030/how-fascism-works-by-jason-stanley/), last month. It should be a massive red flag to all of us if he’s fleeing the country.
Yikes. *Any* American that thinks critically about ideas and has the means should be leaving. This situation is deteriorating rapidly. Every day is a new “holy shit” event.
He’ll be welcome in Canada! 🇨🇦
University of Toronto sends Jordan Peterson to the U.S. and gets back Professor Stanley.
Smart guy.
I did watch the Wired peice with Ruth Ben-Ghiat on Dictator. It checked boxes for 32 min straight. Being a woman and a scholar versed in facism she would likely become quickly an enemy of the state would the US speedrun to their Stasi guard era.. She threw a few curve ball at Trumps and its inner circle too. May she be safe from harm. Historian and history matter a lot alas people tend to forget and repeat their mistake as they lose interest in our history.
Nope.
No way we’re letting these LOSERS end the nation of Washington and Jefferson and Lincoln. Nope, not this pants-shitting, sub-mediocre golfer and his band of morons. He’s not worth it. Not worthy of any of this. I’m staying and fighting and these assholes can flee when this is over.
It’s like that old joke – dude’s running away from something. No one knows what.
Though his shirt on the back reads:
*I am a bomb technician. If you see me running, try to keep up*
His book How Fascism Works is highly recommended. It describes everything that happens in the United States. It’s something I return to often.
I get wanting to leave the country. But if enough people of the same mind who hold similar values leave the US, isn’t that giving up?
Maybe we are at that bridge. Do we stay and fight or do we flee? I’m not sure what the answer is. I do feel if enough people leave, this nation will become fully MAGA. That’s probably what they want.
I mean to be fair, those who fled Germany before it became a full fledged dictatorship were the smartest looking back
Well fuck, this ain’t good…
It’s all really looking like that movie Handmaidens Tale scary shit I got my stuff lock and loaded not going down easy .
If people who make it their life’s work to study fascism, and teach one of the most respected Universities, nope’s out of country because he can see the dominos ahead falling to the ground.
it’s time for you to decide what your going to do.
He’s not the only one, if I’m understanding the situation correctly.
And it’s never a good sign when academics start fleeing.
This is a huge deal and you Americans (and the rest of the world) should take notice.
This guy is an expert on fascism, a professor at Yale university which, let’s be honest is extremely prestigious. It’s not like professorships at Yale grow on trees.
If he is fleeing his country based on the current political landscape, it can’t be good.
Ever since Trump won in November, I’ve spent a lot of my free time ensuring my sons, my girlfriend and her daughter, my sister, brother-in-law, my niece & nephews, and a few others close to my family all have passports, a couple of chooses on how to leave, a specific destination we collectively chose to meet, and enough financial resources to survive until we all get resettled. The more time passes with Trump & his goons spreading chaos, the more I’m glad me & mine have a “last resort” backup plan.
A student was just arrested for an article she wrote at her university paper. Maybe the dude is bouncing considering his platform is much larger and he’s not trying to be a political prisoner in his own country.
Headline is click-baity but the phenomenon is real. Most of my family who were US citizens have sold up and left since November, those remaining are still transferring assets offshore and will be relocating by May. My former law firm (I’m retiredl is over-flowing with migration visa work from people in the USA seeking to move here. These are middle class professionals, well educated and well off, who see the writing on the wall and are getting out before the US economy is trashed and democracy is a bittersweet memory.
Hard to imagine a more ominous portent than a fascism professor getting the fuck out of dodge
He compared it to leaving Germany in the 1930s.
After the catastrophe of the WWII, the question that was raised amongst scholars was WHY didn’t the Jews leave when they saw what happened. They only tried to escape when they actually couldn’t escape anymore. It was too late. The answer is that, the changes came one by one. Things happened gradually and did not affect the majority of the people, until people got used to this state of a temporary emergency state. The signs were there, but life went on like usual and people minded their own business because they still had to work, eat and survive. Some thought things were bad, but were they that bad that they had to leave?! Just how far these measures could go?! Someone will for sure intervene and stop this. Is the next thing that happens bad enough to make them leave? Which would be a clear sign to leave? Just like then, people ask themselves these questions every time a new outrageous measure gets introduced. And just like back then, no one will be able to answer this question and tell them that THIS is the moment to leave. Some will make it out in time and some unfortunately will not. This guy made the right decision.
