Maybe we should start publishing MPs attendance rates?

  1. I reckon if you locked up reform voters for a week domestic violence incidents would plummet.

  2. If you locked up all the reform workers, you’d have no one doing any physical work, just desk jockeys, pushing pens with no common sense.

  3. Given they’ve just announced MPs are getting another wage increase, perhaps Reeves could look at making cuts there? Say, MP’s only receiving a wage in proportion to their attendance?

  4. You mean like the debates on fishing in the EU parliament? These people don’t care to represent their voters.

  5. Everything is published in Hansard..

Just the heavy majority of the British electorate don’t care to look at it ever.

  6. 100%. But it should go further and all MP and Lord’s attendance should be published and any 3 month period with less than 80% attendance should trigger a warning and require the leader of the party to explain in the House and on record why their MP/Lord’s are not doing their job. After 3 warnings this should then trigger an automatic by-election for MP’s where the incumbent is banned from running, for Lord’s they should be stripped of their title, seat and remuneration.

  7. They misread the email and said it was a day to go out and perform some violence against women and girls. They’re all experts at it.

  8. I see this at least once a week for the last two months so has the situation not changed or are people still using the same “meme”?

It’s dated January so why not post something more recent?

  9. Seriously though. They’re getting paid. This should be considered some time of fraud.

  10. MP’s attendance is recorded already and Bienkov knows that. Maybe he will add the information to his daily reports.

  11. Parliamentary debates are useful for social media clips and not much else. You don’t need to be in parliament to challenge a bill, you can do it just as effectively on TV or twitter.

This isn’t an attempt to defend Reform, I’m just saying that parlimentry debate attendance is really not that important.

  12. In an interview a few years back farage was asked what the difference was between a German immigrant, such as his wife, and a Romanian immigrant, and he answered “I think you know the difference”

  13. It helps if you remember that Reform UK is a limited company rather than a real political party. It’s just a vehicle to help Nigel Farage get more power.

  14. Neither did most of the rest of the MPs. A good majority of these commons debates are very poorly attended.

  15. They didn’t turn up to the debate about immigration or Brexit recently either which are two things they apparently care the most about.

  16. This should frankly disqualify them from holding office.

  17. They Work For You is a website worth checking out regarding what your MP is actually doing.

  18. I think so too, though only a proportion of MPs’ work is actually in the Commons. They should spend at least a day a week in their constituency for example, so it needs to be carefully managed. Some are on committees or ministers etc.

  19. Yes. And MPs who fail to attend get their salary cut progressively up to 50%.

More importantly, there needs to be a cap on claiming expenses back.

  20. This isn’t just one party; it’s them all. They also put everything down to expenses, so when they do turn up, we need to pay for first-class travel and 5-star accommodation, with a bit of fine dining tossed in for good measure. I have no issue paying for travel and accommodation, but it must be sensible and reasonable. No doubt, when at their constituency, every mile they travel in their car for business and pleasure will be paid for by the taxpayer. If they can drive, we should be paying fuel expenses; that would be great as they will all have in-depth and great experience of claiming that. The government is an absolute gravy train for mates.

  21. Their pay should be based on attendance and how many local surgeries they attend.

If they don’t vote on Commons votes then they don’t get paid without suitable reasons.

If I only turned up half the time I’d be sacked never mind paid my full wage!

  22. Maybe they should be on an hourly fucking rate, all of them. The freeloading bastards.

  23. They might be seen as far right or racist if they attended. We know where most of the violence against women and young girls is coming from dont we..

  24. Let’s not play the party game BS. How many MPs were there in total?

Probably 10 if you are lucky?

  25. Why would they want to tackle the preferred pastime of their voter base?

  26. Theyworkforyou dot com. Find your MP’s voting record.

  27. You can – theyworkforyou.com tracks all MP’s attendance in Parliament, what they’ve spoken on, how they vote, etc.

But you know, I’m sure they’re all really busy holding surgeries so their flock can bring casework to them.

  28. None of them turned up to the debate on International Men’s Day.
    Dismal showing from all.

  29. All of the government needs ripping out and starting a fresh
