ONLINE — Join Stefan Streckfus, CTO of Renewell Energy, for a free, one-hour webinar exploring the untapped potential of inactive wells. The concept, known as gravity energy storage, has the potential to transform abandoned wells into valuable assets for renewable energy integration.

The webinar hosted by Penn State Extension explores how decommissioned oil and gas wells can be converted into gravity-based energy storage systems. These systems function by lifting a heavy weight using excess energy and then releasing it to generate power when demand is high. When electricity demand rises, this stored potential energy is released by lowering the object, which spins a generator to produce electricity. This process creates a reliable, long-term energy solution.

Gravity energy storage offers several advantages over conventional battery storage, including longer lifespan, lower maintenance costs, and reduced reliance on critical raw materials. Additionally, repurposing wells could help address the growing issue of orphaned oil and gas sites, which pose environmental and financial burdens on communities.

The webinar will be held on April 2, 2025 at noon EST. There is no fee, but registration is required. To register, please visit: www.bit.ly/gravity42.
