2. While a sensationalist take would be to read the below

   And conclude that Putin looking to protect his Oblast, the USA.

   The article actually says he’s looking to protect Russian land in the arctic if the US purchases Greenland.

   Which means that Putin is providing much needed resistance against the US annexing Greenland.

   I don’t know whether the sensationalist take or the actual implication of what Putin is saying is more wild.

4. Ever since that bizarre attack on Zelensky in the White House, I’ve had a suspicion that Trump might look to trade American support and influence in Europe for Russian support or acquiescence of American domination of Canada and Greenland. These people think the game “Risk” is real life. 😰

7. The bigger question: Is this one of those child psychology things where Trump can come back with this as a reason to actually justify taking Greenland. I don’t trust Trump and wouldn’t put anything past him but I trust Putin even less.

8. This is all staged. Putin has somehow convinced Trump that he should focus on the arctic (Greenland and Canada).

   Putin now saying RUS is gonna rearm in the arctic is staged and meant as a help to Trump by legitimating his reasons to take over Canada and Greenland.

   Putins price – which I’m sure is out in the open in the secret negotiations between US and RUS – is to have safe conduct in Ukraine and probably other european countries.

   And the outcome is weakening historic western alliances – a dream scenario for Putin. Putin is playing Trump and Trump has no clue. He will destabilize the western world and Putin is the only winner.

   Hopefully the unforeseen consequences will be a revitalized EU that will rearm and find a way to replace Nato and have a more unitary chain of command.

   And Trump is underestimating the negative impact breaking up old alliances will have on the US economy. The anger in EU by both its leaders and its citizens is massive. The majority will choose not to buy US products and countries don’t want to trade with someone they can’t trust. Even China is a trustworthy trade partner because they understand the positive impact it has on the chinese economy.

24. I remember the fear I had of nuclear annihilation during the Cold War. The current political climate with a despot at the helm of the USA is a thousand times more frightening.
