Irish actor Pierce Brosnan says he is not hoping to come back as James Bond any time soon as he looks ahead to a new role.
That’s “going to be another man’s job,” he told dpa after playing the lead role in “GoldenEye” and “The World Is Not Enough.” In all, he starred as the British secret agent in four films from 1995 to 2002.
As the producers hunt for a new Bond after the departure of Daniel Craig, Brosnan says, “I wish them all well.”
Instead, fans can look forward to seeing Brosnan play crime boss Conrad Harrigan in Guy Ritchie’s “Mobland.” The series drops on Paramount+ on Sunday in the US, Britain, Australia and Canada and will be released later in some other markets.
Some raised hopes online that Brosnan might come back as an older Bond – although the prospect was seen as unlikely.
That’s flattering, says Brosnan. “I will take the love with gratitude and thank you,” he says. “Who knows where it will all go.”
He underlined how profoundly playing Bond affected him.
“He’s with me for life (Bond). It was great. A magical time in my life,” he told PA news agency.
“It opened a lot of doors and allowed me to go off and form my own company and make my own movies – ‘The Thomas Crown Affair,’ ‘The Matador’ – it gave me access to a whole other world as an actor, employment.”
In February, long-time James Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson announced that they were handing over creative control to Amazon MGM Studios.
Experienced producer duo Amy Pascal and David Heyman are lined up for the next film for a fresh start. Pascal is famed for her work on the “Spider-Man” films. Heyman produced the Harry Potter series.
