In 1622, Spanish galleon Nuestra Señora de Atocha set sail for Spain laden with gold, silver, pearls, and other goods from colonies in present Columbia, Panama, and Cuba. A hurricane sunk the vessel near Florida– a huge economic blow for the Spanish Empire. This cup was recovered from the wreckage.
