Dublin Airport: ‘Chaotic scenes’ at security cause passengers to miss flights – Dublin Live

  1. > all companies who operate at airports across Europe are experiencing similar challenges as we approach the start of the busy summer season ahead

I’m flying out from a European airport today. I bet you it’s working just fine.

Edit: 15 minutes to get through security

  2. Are these “staffing issues” another “we don’t want to pay a proper wage” issue?

Like we’re just coming out of covid and into summer, feels fairly predictable that’s it’s gonna be busy this year.

  3. Going to Rome for Easter just sick already have to be probably 5 hours before flight that’s some carry on feckin joke

  4. There’s so many things not working after covid. The cracks are really starting to show coming in to the summer. Expect more bullshit to come.

  5. Off to Thailand with Qatar Airways on Thursday. 8.15 am flight, but airline staff only show up at the check-in counter 2.5-3 hours before take off. Given it takes at least 30 mins to check in, I’m very concerned about missing this flight.

  6. *Temporary downturn in business…*

“I know, let’s fire all our staff to save money!”

    *Upturn in business…*

“I don’t understand; how do we not have enough staff to handle all our customers? Who could have seen this coming?”

  7. The hilarious thing is that most if the security actually achieves very little.

Airport security is largely theatre, as has been proven again and again.

  8. Joined the q at 9:15 today at T1, was finished by 10:05. Would be faster if not the random tray swabs

  9. I flew aerlingus last weekend and had to check in the luggage I would normally take in the baggage hold on this trip. Took 40 minutes to wait in the line and was quite close to closing for the gate by the time we got through security after. Wonder if that has anything to do with it. The aerlingus staff didn’t seem to have enough resources to manage it comfortably.

  10. Question, if you’re pregnant, do you have to walk under the metal detector? Doesn’t it give off harmful …. can’t think of the word but I’ve heard it’s not a good idea for pregnant ladies

  11. Everybody should commit to not spending a penny in Dublin airport until this is resolved. Don’t go to burger king, don’t get a pint, don’t be a sambo and defo don’t buy any perfume or sunglasses.

Just take a free bottle of water and don’t put a euro in the box.

  12. If ever you’re stuck in a massive queue for security in Terminal 1, try heading over to T2, they’re connected on the airside. Once I caught an aer lingus flight from a high-numbered gate in “T2” only to pass T1 security on the way there. Could help if you and a thousand other people are heading for the same three Ryanair flights

EDIT you’ll need to go before you pass the barriers though, I don’t think they let you back through and then in again with the same boarding pass, but I could be wrong

  13. Covid restrictions probably prevents them having more staff, forcing them to fill the airport with hundreds of people standing in an enclosed environment for hours at a time

Maybe its something else but this is Ireland we are talking about

  14. In DA now, got here 4 hours early, got through security in about 40mins…they were doing a lot of random tests which I never seen before, approx 1 in 4 on every lane. Would have been better to deploy the 3 security staff on every lane doing this to open up new lanes, absolute joke.

  15. I can’t see this problem getting any less severe. With it being so highly publicized now, we’ll have hoards of people coming to the airport 4 or 5 hours in advance of their flights. This will clog up security even more, making it harder for those who are actually flying in 2-3 hours to get to their gates.

  16. If you can go in through T2 security. The terminals are joined and it’s about a 5 minute walk between them. Even if you have to bag drop in T1 it can be quicker.

I was flying today and had time to drop bags in T1, walk to T2, go through security, and walk back to T1 quicker than the queue made it through T1.

  17. I’ve been abroad twice in the last month visiting both Netherlands and Germany, both times security in dublin was way faster and more efficient than Germany and Netherlands systems .Saying this they’re no encouraging people to be at the airport 3 hours in advance to avoid long waits instead of traditional 2 hours .

  18. Stupid question. What happens if you miss your flight even if you arrive before the estimated wait time as indicated by the airport?

  19. Would someone flying from Dublin to mainland Europe be better advised to take a regional flight to Dublin from another city and transfer at the airport?

  20. Ryanair is warning passengers to get to the airport early, but they don’t even let you check your bags in until 2.5 hours before it’s due to depart.

  21. Does anyone know if there’s a family lane for security screening?
I have a flight with my 20mo and I cannot imagine, for the life of me, sitting in a queue with a toddler for 2+ hours.

  22. This is the same website that described floods in Dundrum as “biblical” so I’d take “chaotic scenes” with a grain of salt.
