The problem with this is how far do you go and do we take everyone.
There is a direct correlation between population and the cost of housing and there is already a housing crisis in cities.
Do we make living costs completely unmanageable for existing citizens?
My problem is the people who raise this are usually doing nothing for either group. It’s usually an excuse for apathy, ‘why should we help one if we aren’t helping all?’ And it makes them feel better about doing nothing.
Should we help all refugees? Probably. Should we help none? No.
Playing devils advocate here but I think it’s distance more than race that is the biggest reason Ukraine is getting more support. Your average British citizen feels more connected to Ukraine than Serbia.
All that said I think refugees should be organised by the UN and supported equally amongst all members rather than this first country rubbish.

We’ve volunteered to take a refugee. We don’t care from where but as we have young-ish children would prefer either a single woman or a woman with a kid or two. We don’t have room for much more than that. If we could host a Ukrainian that would be awesome as my wife speaks conversational Russian, but she also has experience as an English teacher to foreign students so anyone is fine.
When you’ve got the means, don’t build a bigger fence, build a longer table. We have the means.
Point being people should stop complaining about racist policies and racist people and lead by example.
How often do Saudi Arabia, Iran, China etc take in a load of white European refugees? We have done plenty wrong as a continent, but we took millions of MENA refugees over the last decade, the reverse is never true.
It is only natural that countries are more willing to take refugees of neighbouring countries than far flung ones, hence Poland taking seven figures of Ukrainian’s and Lebanon doing the same with their neighbours.
Refugees and economic migrants are not the same thing.

Lots of virtue signallers here who aren’t willing to contribute more of their taxes to improve the situation, like to vent their outrage whilst providing no solutions.
