My partner is a teacher and she’s hoping this will be the case for Flemish school too, but a lot of teachers don’t seem to agree.
It’s baffling, she’s so bored in the summer but is so stressed throughout the year, those two extra weeks could mean so much during the year.
I kinda can’t help feeling that the kids that remained up to speed over the summer holidays now get shafted.

More difficult for the ones that take “ouderschapsverlof”. I thought you had to take that with at least one month at the time and know a lot of parents who taken 2 months of ouderschapsverlof in the summer holidays and then split the normal leave over the other school holidays.

The stretch between 29th of August and the 22nd of October is going to feel long.
The only big problem is that now working parents have 6 weeks to split for vacation during summer instead of 8.

Good, let’s do it all. So all family summer vacations have to be planned in a smaller amount of time. So prices will be higher and the holiday homes will be more empty in the summer. lose lose
Man, there’s a high chance this will end up in a shitshow
No time for teachers to prepare, no synchronisation with calendars from other sectors, …. this is a recipe for disaster
BTW this is calendar is (for now) only for “Obligatory School” (not universities)

Au passage, ce calendrier ne concerne que (pour l’instant) l’enseignement obligatoire (supérieur exclu)
