Viola Davis Shares Her Candid Reaction to Being Called ‘One of the Greatest of All Time’

1. > When asked how she helps make her costars feel at ease working alongside “one of the greatest of all time,” Davis promptly dismissed the distinction. “I’ll tell you how I deal with that: I don’t deal with that. I don’t feel like I’m the greatest of all time,” she says.

   > “I mean, I don’t have anything to do with how people see me, but when I come on a set, I see them as peers,” Davis continues. “I don’t feel like I’m the great Buddha, the great actress Buddha in the sky and you are all minions that have to learn from me. I learn from them and I really do believe that.”

   > “I got into the business because I really believed even in that word ‘ensemble.’ So I think that’s what makes people feel comfortable with me,” she explains.

2. She is a phenomenal actress. She has such a great range in her acting, taking on roles that are different from each other. And she sounds grounded and not full of herself like some other actors with half her talent and hard work.

3. She is so one note – just angry & determined in every role.

4. Viola is an incredible actress and human being. She grew up in a really poor city in RI and she has really done a lot for that city, not just by donating money but also her time.

5. She’s one of those actors where I’m gonna give whatever it is a shot just because she’s in it.
