BYD chases Tesla to India: EV giant BYD to establish a $10 billion manufacturing unit in Telangana

SS: Chinese EV giant BYD is investing $10 billion in India to build a massive production base near Hyderabad, including a 20 GWh battery plant and plans to produce 600,000 EVs annually by 2032. The Telangana government is offering full support, including land allocation. BYD’s recent success includes surpassing Tesla in revenue, driven by hybrid vehicle sales.
A report from the [Telugu daily ఈనాడు](https://www.eenadu.net/telugu-news/andhra-pradesh/chinese-electric-car-giant-byd-is-preparing-to-establish-an-electric-car-unit-near-hyderabad-sources/1702/125054904) noted that the Telangana government has assured the company that it will provide all kinds of support, including allocating the necessary land for this project.
The report further noted that the decline in Tesla sales in Europe especially could also be attributed to its CEO Elon Musk’s rise as a hard-line conservative political figure.
Another blow to Musk looks like he will only have the USA market to sell where nobody is going to buy a new tesla.
It would be interesting to see if Tesla goes ahead with its plan to manufacture its cars in India, because of reports that the [unit would be set up in the state of Andhra](https://telugu.hindustantimes.com/andhra-pradesh/chandrababu-naidu-efforts-to-set-up-a-tesla-manufacturing-unit-in-andhra-pradesh-121740284609345.html), which also happens to be a Telugu state right next to Telangana.
