I warned my father in January about this since he looks Hispanic to some people (he’s not, but I can see ICE not caring, and this story underscores that since they also don’t care if you’re a US Citizen). I also look Hispanic to some people (also not), and I’m staying indoors as much as possible.

  4. I demand a congressional hearing to ensure that ICE has valid warrants for these arrests or “captures”; you cannot have Law Enforcement Agencies just grabbing m’fuckers of the street and detaining them. We must have oversight.

    They are braking into people’s homes and disappearing them to prison camps in foreign countries without any hearings. They claim they are only taking foreign criminals – but offering no proof what so ever – even refusing to give judges or defense attorneys even the names of the people they are taking. They are doing this to establish their ‘right’ to break in and kidnap people. Anyone thinking they will stop with only foreign criminals is fooling themselves.

  7. It’s not that these guys don’t have the budget or manpower to raise the numbers of people they are arresting and deporting.

    It’s that they don’t have the budget or manpower required to arrest and deport the correct people.

    Picking up US citizens shows that they have a pretty poor process in place that isn’t very good.

    Not really acceptable when you are approaching people wearing guns. Sooner or later they are going to approach someone that really shouldn’t be approached in this manner and it’s all going to go to shit.

  9. That seems like a 1983 claim if I ever saw one. Racism is not the basis for the probable cause to arrest someone and, without probable cause, you have deprived a citizen of their freedom of movement. That would be a textbook claim to recover money.

  16. How did they even get his name to arrest him? He just “looked foreign” or something? I’d always assumed ICE had a list of people who overstayed authorization to be here, but clearly that’s not the case. Those agents should all be arrested for kidnapping.

  24. A mixture of a person’s physical characteristics is associated with race. The person’s legal or political connection to a country (i.e. citizenship) is their nationality. It’s stupid for racist folks to decide someone’s nationality based on their race—but it seems that racists don’t know the difference!

  32. I seem to remember a certain political group in this country equating themselves to the Jews during 1930s Germany for needing paperwork or a symbol for government officials. Who knew that was projection for what they were planning? Then again, every accusation is a confession for them, so we really need to open our imaginations to what they’ve accused the left government of doing, and see how it’s going to be used for them. Nothing should be considered hyperbole anymore. When US citizens are having countless rights trampled by a tyrannical government, especially by masked “agents” with no justification, the Rubicon has been crossed.

    Ok, they mostly were centuries ago, but transportation has improved a lot since then and people resettled around the globe. The fact that north-Americans statistically more often look more like European genotype than North American natives should be proof enough.

  34. I think we need to mob ICE if we see this happening. In the videos I’ve seen where they’re hassling someone who knows their rights they fold immediately and look scared. Deep down they’re human and they all know this is wrong. It’s also theater and if we see them fleeing from the situation that’s good.

I’m not a fan of the police as an organization because of its origins as a means of capturing escaped slaves, the tendency of authoritarian personalities to join the forces, the abuses, etc, but I know there are police officers who are decent people that actually want to serve and protect, despite that not being their actual mandate.

    With ICE, though, does any of that apply? At the very least you have officers “just following orders” which is still inexcusable. It seems like you have to really enjoy racism to do that job.

    Am I just being prejudiced? Are there examples of ICE agents refusing to carry out racist orders?
