I've heard conflicting information about updating permanent residence cards in Germany. My current passport is expiring next year, and I've been told that it's no longer necessary to reissue the residence card when changing to a new passport because the card's information can supposedly be updated digitally. However, based on this official Berlin service page (https://service.berlin.de/dienstleistung/121874/en/), it seems that I would still need to visit the immigration office to transfer my residence permit details to the new passport and reissue the card.
Does anyone know if this digital update process is actually available in Germany, or is reissuing the card still mandatory?
