JAMESTOWN —– The Jamestown Fire Department responded to a report of natural gas coming from a valve at a Montana-Dakota Utilities substation on Saturday, March 29, said Fire Chief Jim Reuther.
The department was dispatched at 3:53 p.m. to a small building behind Dakota Engine Builders at 2809 Highway 281 S.
Five firefighters and two units responded and there were 10 other firefighters on standby at the fire station, Reuther said. JFD remained at the scene until MDU arrived.
An MDU technician from Valley City responded to the call and checked surrounding buildings to make sure there was no gas in them, Reuther said.
“The wind was in our favor, it was coming out of the northeast … it was basically blowing into the country,” Reuther said. “… When we left, we were released by MDU, but they still didn’t know what the source was. It had stopped venting but they had to find out why it did what it did.”
JFD was at the scene until 6:15 p.m. There was no damage and no injuries, Reuther said.
