New criteria for gay men to donate blood in effect

  1. TL;DR

Phase 1: MSM deferral period is now 4 months instead of 12.

Phase 2 later this year where an individual risk assessment will be in place for all donor’s sexual behaviours

  2. I’m slightly unsure why they bothered with the two phase approach, be better off just waiting until the end of the year for the individual risk assessment to come in and be done with it

  3. So me, who’s been in a gay monogamous relationship for the last 6 years, will still not be able to donate, unless someone down the line says it’s ok for me to do so? I’ve said it before, if my blood isn’t good enough for you now, you’re never going to get it. Fuck the IBTS.

  4. When can people who received a transfusion donate? Surely tests can now tell if I’m eligible or not. I had a transfusion as a kid in the 90’s, someone saved my life and I’d love to return the favour.
