But that’s not true – the name Wendy’s is only taken for the Benelux (Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg). So I don’t see why Wendy’s doesn’t just occupy every other European country.

Keeps them out of the EU, not Europe as whole. The UK has Wendy’s (only London, Reading and Oxford I think but still)

Not a thing I have actively or passively missed in my life, so… Fair to say we don’t need one. The first KFC around here was a big deal, we went once and then decided it’s really not worth the hype.

I doubt this is why they aren’t in Europe. Just change the name to Dave Thomas or something. Hell, there are fast food restaurants with different names depending where they are in the US already. Hardee’s on the East Coast is Carl’s Jr on the West Coast. Rally’s in rural America is the same as Checker’s in urban America.

Honestly, the only national fast food joints Europe is missing out on is Chipotle and Popeyes. Maybe Five Guys. Everything else is…meh.

Wendy’s is better than McDonalds (quality and pricepoint) compared to say McDonalds. But Euro McDonalds are actually good, so I don’t know what the point to have Wendy’s there.

Aldi is named Hofer in Austria for a similar reason. They bought the Austrian chain Hofer and wanted to rename it to Aldi, but weren’t allowed because the was already a single small shop with that name. So they just kept the name Hofer but used the Aldi logo, an giant A, which doesn’t make any sense because there is no A in Hofer.
