Those agency seafarers know they aren’t going to be treated any better.
They have other options.
Wouldn’t it be better to get fired so you get dismissal pay and unemployment benefits?
The trouble is, as the economy slows down folks will take these jobs and say ‘I don’t have a choice blah blah blah.’
And that is how the meat grinder that is predatory capitalism continues.
I’m a yank (Dad is British) and my hometown is just the same few shitty companies that turnover staff every 6 months. Everyone in the town has worked everywhere. It’s the way the world is now.
If you are being brought in to replace people the company deems expendable, they will treat you the same. It might not be in the immediate future but with full employment rights not kicking in for two years, or not at all for agency staff, you can bet P&O would sack them for the smallest reason they can get away with.
