They missed out the continuous running commentary during the film.
I went to see The Dark Knight in the cinema in the states. After Heath Ledger’s opening scene about 30 people clapped. Absolutely bizarre.
I’m sitting there like “he can’t hear you. It’s a fucking movie, and he’s also dead”
So proud to be British
“Fuck off” is the correct response.
For the fucking win UK. For the fuuuucking win.
Went to the midnight screening of Avengers: Infinity War, remember the girl sitting next to me crying when everyone started getting killed off, most emotion Iv ever seen at the pictures.
I was happy with the lack of singers when I saw Wicked
I saw the Return of the King (LOTR) in the US. The standing ovation at the credits was wild to me.
Who the fuck claps during/after a film???
Yep Yanks are weird and unhinged, this isn’t news.
At the end of The Return of the King in 2003, in my little cinema in Cornwall, everyone clapped. But that was special.
I never witnessed it before or after.
In the same vein, fuck off with your non meme.
Makes you proud to be British.
Nothing says British like telling someone to fuck off does 🤣
“Nothing harder than a soft roll” Mark Kermode
do they clap when the plane lands too?
Ngl, I kinda like when movie audiences cheer and clap at big moments…
I’ve only been in a cinema in the UK that have clapped once. It was for Avengers Endgame
Never understood that in the states. Sure it’s polite to show appreciation, but no one who contributed even an iota of work to the film is in your theatre in Shitsville Nebraska or wherever.
It makes sense at a big premier or a film festival special screening where the director/editor/cast are literally in attendance. But a random screening you’re really just clapping the attendant for playing the film correctly, or you’re clapping to signal to the other audience members that you “get” the film.
I went to see Independence Day at a cinema in Leicester Square in London the day after it was released.
You could tell the UK audience from the rest of the world, from the hoots of laughter at the “Englishman’s” accent and the cries of “Oh fuck OFF” when people clapped at the end 😁
I went to see Mean Girls (2024) at the start of the year. Firstly i was the only guy in the cinema, secondly the movie was shit. A group of girls started to clap when it finished and not one person joined
That sums up US Vs UK culturally in general, let alone after COVID. Britain’s motto is “who gives a shit?”
