The Magical Airport Way / aka Security queue

  1. For some context, yes the queue snakes all the way to the check-in counters 10/11, almost at the far end near the Ryanair check-in area.

  2. After flying home from Manchester last week I’m never going to complain about airport security again. We arrived at 4:30pm and joined the security queue immediately, flight at 7. Got through security at 7:30 and sprinted to the plane only to sit on it for another two hours. Thankfully aer lingus were sound and didn’t take off until 9:30 (so 5 hours airport total) but there was a Ryanair flight to Dublin at 6:55 that took off at 7:45 so many would’ve missed it. So fair fucks to aer lingus for waiting on every single passenger.

  3. I think my idea of leaving work at 5 and being at the airport for 5:30 for a flight at 7:30 on Good Friday is out the window looking at this!!

  4. Had a flight Saturday morning, got through in 10 minutes, but that was about 0700.

    Seeing that, bloody hell…

  5. Its not just Dublin, it took me 2 hours to transit Helsinki from non-Schengen to a Schengen zone flight, normally only takes 30 minutes. I asked the security what the issue was and it’s the same, completely short staffed.

  6. Dublin airport is broken. The worst security checks on the planet and no plan to even begin to start to sort it out. People missing planes left and right, delayed flights knocking on to air traffic control issues, passengers endangered while they root through your hand luggage trying to find a nail file. At least 5 lanes closed and the insoucient bastards in the white shirts basically strip searching you because they haven[t a fucking clue what they’re doing or what they’re for.

  7. for anyone traveling to dublin to fly i recommend checking knock airport as an alternative, It is suprisingly well connected, easy access via m17 and national roads and flights typically cheaper than dublin (there is a 10 euro airport fee though).

  8. Find it hard to be believe that something so organised and stringent as air travel can be so disorganised.

They know exactly how many people will be flying at any particular time and from that they know how many people will be showing up 2-3h before that flight time.
If they don’t have the staff to support it, surely they could put out a warning about that rather than leaving people in the dark until they show up and miss their flight.

  9. Qued for 2 hours in fast track and missed my flight back to London. Didnt even get to security. Ryanair putting me on a flight tomoro gratis but insane craic. Gonna miss work. Ppl crying at the airport even the ireland team looked like they were missing their. What an absolute joke!! Hard enough being a fecking migrant and can’t even get home for the soccer and mothers day with it being a shambles.

  10. I was there Friday evening, good god we were there 2+ hours in advance, and we just made our flight!

  11. I’m due to fly at 11am Ryanair. If I arrived at 8am would I be OK. Should I go through security at T2 & walk to T1 thereafter. Thanks

  12. Was an absolute pain in the ass. But honestly, y’all have it easy. I was kinda laughing at all the angry folk. Guess they never did time at JFK.

  13. My brother missed his flight to Rome last week because of the security delays … happily they put him on a flight the next morning. But it’s madness how long people are getting held back in security !

  14. I may be wrong but aren’t the security gates at the other end of the airport? (left side of pic)…is the queue so bad it’s snaking the ENTIRE terminal???

  15. If only there was another airport 2.5 hours away, able to serve over a third of the country more conveniently. Fuck the DAA. They fucked Shannon years ago and now they’re fucking Dublin now that they’ve got their monopoly.
