Louisiana’s economy, in particular, benefits from the expansion of LNG export terminals, which will increase US natural gas exports from 15% of production to about 30% of production by 2029, with another 15% of US production in LNG export terminals proposed but not yet approved.
My expectation is these will increase US natural gas prices to around $3/MMBtu below global trade levels (Presently NW Europe: $14, Asia: $17). $11 gas is almost 3x the $4 US natural gas consumers and electricity rate payers are presently paying, almost 4x the $3 that has been the central tendency of prices for the last decade.
And I’m not alone here. The natural gas oriented US petroleum producers have been on a tear in equity markets, while those focused on crude oil have languished. So investors already understand the planned future. Its just people who heat or cook with gas, or get electricity from NG focused utilities (Florida’s grid is 85% natural gas powered) who haven’t gotten the memo.
