Canadian generals want to co-operate with the military of the country that has threatened annexation? At this rate, why even have a military at all? Read the room guys…
Canada needs to continue separating themselves from that autocratic Cheeto
Germany is ok to continue buy F-35 and “Canadian” generals don’t see a threat to the country – I guess they are NATO generals first and US owns NATO.
Back channels are how diplomacy actually gets done. The joint Chiefs have no interest in war with any of our allies.
You folks are crazy if you think they are oblivious to what is going on. Of course they know.
They have a directive to work with the US. Until that is reminded by the government, it will continue.
Relax, everyone. April 28 comes soon.
Time to think impeachment with this dimentia case

“Chief of the Defence Staff Gen. [Jennie Carignan](https://ottawacitizen.com/news/national/defence-watch/new-chief-of-the-defence-staff-jennie-carignan-takes-helm-during-tumultuous-period-for-canadian-forces) met with Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. Christopher Grady on March 20 in Washington to discuss defending North America as well as the Arctic.
Royal Canadian Navy Vice Adm. Angus Topshee also travelled to Washington on March 21 to meet with Acting Chief of Naval Operations Adm. James Kilby to discuss how to better integrate Canada’s maritime forces into American operations, particularly in the Arctic.”
The Vice-Chairman is also the acting Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, and also the Acting Chief of Naval Operations…
….”Acting”
Are Trumps loyalists not installed in their Chief positions yet?
Vance – “They just don’t have the cards”
Ok, Vance but what you don’t realize is.
They very well might get them when they start signing security pacts with the EU and China
The only one without “cards” soon is going to be the United States
Love from an Australian citizen
I understand people are getting concerned with the rhetoric, but the reality is the US is not going to be going to war with NATO allies. It’s not just unlikely, but functionally impossible to actually do without approval from congress and that’s just not happening.
Even if the president was serious about his intentions and orders an invasion, it wouldn’t be a lawful order. People keep thinking that he could order it because of the War Powers Resolution act, but that’s not the case. It would need to be authorized by a declaration of war or at least an AUMF from congress; which is not going to be approved.
The war powers act says that the president can deploy forces before confessional approval “into situations where imminent involvement in hostilities is clearly indicated by the circumstances”. So the president can legally deploy forces into areas where there are active hostilities or it is clear imminent hostilities will occur. The act doesn’t give him carte blanche authority to create hostilities. It’s a reactionary authority, not a proactive power so the order to invade an ally would be illegal. It is highly unlikely that an order like that would be followed by the generals in charge or the vast majority of the rank and file servicemembers.
Even if (and that’s a *big if*) the military leaders followed those orders, there wouldn’t be the necessary funding to launch or sustain major military operations. At the end of the day congress still has the power of the purse and invasions are expensive and require a lot of contracted support. The US defense budget isn’t what funds wars like we’ve had in the Middle East, that comes from OCO (oversees contingency operations) funding which is a completely separate budget. If we tried to move the base military budget around to pay for an invasion we would quickly run out of funds. The executive branch can’t just wish money into existence. Congress could barely get a CR approved to avoid a shut down, they aren’t going to come together to fund an invasion of a NATO ally. So without congress authorizing the funding to sustain such an invasion, it’s not possible to carry out.
So the adults are still talking. Good.
God this conversation is heart wrenching.
Canada needs to prepare for all possibilities. America has gone rouge
The shit hits the fan for cheeto and his lackies when he tries to issue illegal orders to the military.
Keep your friends close…
The executive branch is trying to declare war without Congress. Meanwhile, the legislative is doing what exactly?. since they’re not working, shouldn’t we not pay them?
