The [official requirements](https://service.berlin.de/dienstleistung/328188/standort/327437/en/) to apply for a residence permit for my spouse state that we need to get our marriage certificate legalized. Our marriage certificate was notarized in Mumbai and we brought the original and notarized copies here to Berlin. From the sources online, I understand that I should (guessing in the following order):
1. provide the certificate to the German Consulate in Mumbai who will then legalize it
2. take the legalized certificate to a certified translator in Berlin
3. bring this legalized + translated certificate to my wife’s appointment
Assuming I have to do the legalization in the consulate in Mumbai 🤯, I am hoping:
1. I can do this by post and not physically go to the consulate in Mumbai
2. the consulate has a quick response time so we can file our application in time in Berlin
Does anyone have experience with this and is my understanding correct? Or have I grossly misunderstood and this can be accomplished within Berlin?

Talk to the consulate in Mumbai whether you can do the process by post.
But yeah, I think the consulate in Mumbai derped when they issued your spouse the D-visa without making sure that you had an apostilled marriage certificate.
