  5. Booker finally found the political climate for a Democrat like him. One where the time of status quo and normal rules of conduct are no longer present we need vocal critics that can and will stand up and speaking for what they believe in. The idea the Democrats should keep doing what they have in the past under the Bush administrations where there was some civility is no longer here and its either get out there and be as loud and aggressive or lose everything because you can’t even stand up for your voters.

  6. Strom Thurmond was an incredibly racist Senate asshole for decades.

    In 1957, the Eisenhower administration introduced an amended version of the Civil Rights Bill, imposing expansion of federal supervision of integration in Southern states. In an unsuccessful attempt to prevent the bill’s passage, Thurmond filibustered the bill, speaking for a total of 24 hours and 18 minutes, in what was then the longest speech ever given by a single senator.

    He raped his family’s black teenage maid when she was a teenager and he was in his early twenties. She had the baby who was his hidden daughter for years.

    Oh, and he was the one who told Nixon to try to deport John Lennon.

  22. I don’t mind achievement hunting on Xbox or PlayStation, but if you’re gonna do it in politics, do it when it’s more disruptive. He could have blocked or delayed something being slipped under the door in the middle of the night, or passed something important of his own.

    On the surface, it’s a great feel good moment, but what did it accomplish for anyone but the person breaking the record? How many points did this put on the board for Blue team? If we’re achievement hunting we might as well keep score too.
