WHEELING, W.Va. — West Virginia Northern Community College cut the ribbon on its new Business and Entrepreneurship Center on Wednesday.

Located on the second floor of the B&O Building in Wheeling, students can now obtain an associate degree in applied science in just two years.

Programs include business administration, small business management, accounting, and more in a new way.

Officials say it’s putting the Ohio Valley on the map.

“This center is giving the students hands-on skills to become entrepreneurs or run small businesses or business administration,” WVNCC Business Program Director Lyndsie Scott Guzek said.

“So, they actually get in the lab, do the work, they actually produce the apparel that’s in there, but there’s also doing things like running a small business, dealing to issues of finance and HR,” WVNCC President Dr. Scott Mosser said.

Allison Blevens, who will be completing her degree in just a few months, said the new center is transformational to not only her career, but others of all ages.

“It’s just an experience that not many students get to experience right out of high school,” Blevens said. “It’s different to have something that you create and are able to sell.”

The inaugural class has five students, though, officials are expecting a wave of 40 next year.
