Melania Trump’s father, Victor Knav, was a member of the communist party in Yugoslavia and the family “lived very well even when times were lean” according to neighbors. Why is this just being swept under the rug?

  1. Because it is the tip of an astronomically large iceberg when it comes to anyone even close to Trump. I could have guessed this before you told me.

  2. Because it’s somehow not fair for the left to blame the right over actual association while the right would crucify the left over some minute semblance of supposed association.

  3. There is nothing controversial here. Everyone who was ambitious was a member of the CP. Even the current right-wing opposition leader in Slovenia was a member of the CP. Viktor was a typical socialist businessman.

BTW. Viktor Knavs’s lawyer is now the president of Slovenia.

  4. >(Trump) was also, we now know, the target of an extensive spying operation conducted by Czechoslovakia’s Státní bezpečnost (StB) intelligence service – together with “friends” from the KGB.

    >The StB had been interested in Trump since 1977, when he married a Czechoslovakian-born woman, Ivana Zelníčková. News of the wedding reached the StB bureau in Zlín, the town in Moravia where Ivana grew up and where her parents lived. Ivana’s father, Miloš, regularly gave the StB information on his daughter’s visits from the US and his son-in-law’s burgeoning career.

    Highlights:

    – During a time when it was extremely difficult to legally leave an Iron Curtain nation, Ivana was able to do this via a sham marriage that got her a foreign citizenship and she was able to do this without being treated as a traitor and defector

    – Ivana Trump’s father was an informant for Czech intelligence

    – She married Trump in the 70s, and he would be later invited to the USSR during the 80s

Perhaps she just got lucky and was able to legally leave Czechoslovakia without percussions. Perhaps her dad’s connection to Czech intelligence was just a coincidence. Perhaps Trump was invited to Moscow strictly for business, with no regard for the fact that his father in law was working for Czech intelligence and that his wife managed to leave without being seen as a traitor.

    So many coincidences!

  5. Edit: fellow redditor below has changed my mind.
I instead disagree with people who have no government experience holding a great deal of power within the government, such as Elon Musk and I realized that place of birth is not always relevant. Therefore this makes my new opinion rather irrelevant to the original post. /cry

~~People are likely going to disagree especially those who lean left but I don’t think either the president or First Lady positions should ever be occupied by foreigners who were not born in the States. The same goes for other made up or very high positions, cough Elongated Muskrat cough South African cough. I’m sorry but her connection isn’t deep enough to count gtfo and neither is Muskrat’s. The same should be true for every country.~~

  6. Trump’s, and the American establishment’s, ties to Putin have to be brought into the light.

  7. This was the case in all communist countries in Europe. If you were a party member you got privileges, connections, favours, etc.

  8. Why does it matter? Members of the communist party always had special privileges.

  9. Communist countries have always be very aristocratic. They abolished the old aristocracy and created the SAME abusive system of a modern reinterpretation of an absolutist monarchy again. The elite, who doesn’t have to suffer from the effects of their actions. The elite, who lives detached from the people. The elites, who oppress and exploit the people in the name of the people.

It is as perverse as it can get.

    So, what do you expect🤷‍♂️

  10. Why is r/europe devoid of any actual Europeans?

All comenters ITT are very obviously american.

  11. It’s Knavs, not Knav. And being a member of the communist party back in that day wasn’t something unique. Probably 10-15% of all adults were members.
So if they had sugar or washing powder when others didn’t it’s not a matter of being a member of the CP, but a matter of knowing the woman behind the counter in a store.

  12. Is the rug that this was swept under an orangey colour by any chance, lacquered with hairspray perhaps?

  13. This is stupid af. All good standing party associated people were doing fine in Yugoslavia lol. What a pathetic sensational piece.

  14. Knavs not Knav.
Some people was forced to join The Red Nonsense, but I doubt he was forced.

  15. Swept under the rug? why?

What is at all the significance of that….

Trump is a madman, we dont need to find some weird dirt on him, omg his father in law was a member of the CP in Yugoslavia 60 years ago…. who cares, that has nothing to do with anything. Your pretending Trump is a regular politician in anyway

  16. Nothing strange or controversial about this, all Jugoslav ‘communist’ party members lived well back then… shitty but it is what it is (or what was lol)…

  17. Yugoslavs were not the barbaric Stalinists. Tito told Moscow to go fuck themselves. Nice try though.

  18. Exactly what kind of woman do you THINK would want to marry Donald? Think about this question! Really!

  19. Yea, let’s create more topics to hide the obvious problems they create right now.

  20. Because Yugoslavia was a decent enough place, the issue is the Serbian nationalists that came after.

  21. Cos who cares what happend 50 year ago comes to mind.

  22. Eh, exactly the same could be said about Kallas tbh, the High Sparrow of Foreign Relations or some such in the EU right now.

I do find it somewhat ironic that the majority of Trump’s children are 50% eastern European – a region he seems to treat as having second or third class citizens in general.

  23. It’s not that controversial. A lot of well connected people were. It’s just another flavor of elite from back when

  24. Anyone who posts such a “high-end tabloid” from the USA ends up on the blocklist of hundreds of users.

  25. I don’t know how credible this series was but it’s worth watching because it does follow a largely historical factual timeline of trumps history with Russia. The author claims that Ivana Trump was actually a KGB asset intentionally placed into Trumps life before they later recruited him. If you have the time, it’s about 50 min and an interesting watch for sure: https://www.reddit.com/r/Whistleblowers/s/oGRrDIMH2l

  26. It’s being swept under the rug, it’s just that nobody cares
