The Moldovan Ministry of Energy held a meeting to qualify investors for building large solar and wind parks and to grant them “large eligible producer” status.

A total of 34 bids for photovoltaic plants (236.61 megawatts/MW) and eight bids for wind plants (207.5 MW) were submitted, all from local companies, two of which have foreign founders.

“The fact that such an impressive number of offers were submitted shows that Moldova is attractive to investors, even in the context of the multiple crises the country has faced,” said Minister Dorin Junghietu. “The energy produced by the new large photovoltaic parks will be intended for domestic consumption. The pace at which energy production from renewable sources is developing speaks for itself. We have increased the installed capacity of renewables eightfold in the last four years, and in February, we exceeded 646 MW,” he added.

The selected investors will be announced by April 7. Afterward, the process for opening technical bids for 165 MW of wind and photovoltaic parks will begin.

The tender for 105 MW of wind and 60 MW of photovoltaic parks was launched last summer. These projects will help Moldova reach its goal of ensuring that at least 30 per cent of electricity comes from renewable sources by 2030. Investors will also have a 15-year purchase contract with the Central Electricity Supplier for the electricity produced.
