From the piece:
> Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, R-La., once famously said that, to understand his “worldview,” all one needs to do is “pick up a Bible off your shelf and read it.” A few months into Donald Trump’s second term, however, Johnson has displayed a lot of tolerance for injustices that would outrage the Jesus of the Bible: redentioning innocent men to a torture prison in El Salvador, falsely accusing grandparents of being “frauds” as a pretext to take away their Social Security checks, and condemning children to die of preventable diseases like HIV and measles. None of this has perturbed Johnson, who backed Trump throughout the spiraling sadism of the administration.
>
> This week, however, Johnson found one policy he cannot abide by: allowing representatives to serve their constituents while simultaneously caring for their newborn infants. On Tuesday, Johnson attempted to block a bipartisan bill to permit House members to vote by proxy, aided by technology, when on parental leave. Even though the speaker has extensive control over what bills come up for a vote, he couldn’t stop this one. Nine Republicans crossed the aisle to help Democrats meet the threshold to force the bill onto the floor. After it passed, Johnson was so irate he canceled all congressional activity for the week and sent members home.
Worst speaker ever?
This porn obsessed weirdo probably thinks new mothers is some breastfeeding porn category and why would you give accommodations to types of porn?
Vice President J.D.Vance has said more than once that women should not be in leadership roles but should, instead, be at home having babies. His mentor, Peter Thiel (who bought Vance a Senate seat for $15 million), doesn’t believe women should have the right to vote. Vance must never be president. Ever. He is a neo-Nazi sympathizing Christian Nationalist who follows the theology of Apologist Reformation, Spiritual Warfare and Christian Reconstructionism.
I honestly don’t understand conservatives. Jesus was literally all about being kind to people, feeding the hungry, healing the sick, housing the homeless.
And conservatives hear that and go “Or…we can persecute the lgbt community, rule by fear (but call it safety), cut services to the poor/sick/old. Think of all the money we’ll save!”
The mask has fallen off these people. They do not care about the Bible, their voters, or this planet. They are a bunch of greedy selfish sexist racist assholes.
Fake bible thumpers pretending to work for the American people. They work to make deals for themselves & for trump. It is all corruption & they want to look at the American people as if we are fools & then they go on to pretend to uphold the rule of law. 🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕
I used to have a boss named Mike Johnson. He was a creep and a fucking moron too.
If they are “Pro Family” why are they blowing up our economy? I f’N HATE MAGA!
Just a friendly reminder to stop using the world meltdown every time an article comes up about something someone doesn’t like. They aren’t all candles , Mike Johnson will be there tomorrow. Let’s not make meltdown the new unprecedented.
He’s not about being pro-family in this. He’s against women being able to vote. At all.
Given that, the thought that women should be in political office is absurd to him. Ask his wife. She will dutifully tell you a woman’s place is under his jackboot, and those of the richest Nazi in the world, and of their Lord, Donald Trump.
People don’t want to see the depth of their misogyny and hatred for others for what it is. It’s too shocking to comprehend.
The Democrats need to have their representative most knowledgeable on the Bible stand up every time that Johnson does one of these things and ask, “Is this what Jesus would do?”, and then recite the pertinent Bible passages.
I may be atheist, but this is one of the few times I’d support the “use” of religion in congress.
I read Mike Johnson melts …. lol
I cannot stand this spineless f*cker.
He lives by the Buyble.
Simple misunderstanding.
Mike Johnson? P-zombie Mike?
“A philosophical zombie (or “p-zombie”) is a being in a thought experiment in the philosophy of mind that is physically identical to a normal human being but does not have conscious experience.”

That guy looks like a fake human.
>After it passed, Johnson was so irate he canceled all congressional activity for the week and sent members home.
“It’s my ball, so screw you guys I’m taking it and [going home](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDWgs2cnga0) . . . *<sob> <sob> <sob>*”
They never get past the Old Testament if they read it at all.
If members can vote by proxy, than we can eliminate the law that limits the number of house members to 435.
Animated Ventriloquist Dummy says
Johnson was gambling that he could basically schedule certain votes during times when female lawmakers of the opposing party were temporarily out. In this Congress, with margins as thin as they are, he needs every vote. So knowing when he could count on someone being unable to vote would give him leverage. And pregnancy / delivery is pretty predictable.
So lacking that option, now he’s upset.
All this “well, I guess Mike Johnson doesn’t care about families” stuff is stupid. It misses the point.
Let’s talk about what it really is: “Well, I guess Mike Johnson is mad because he wasn’t able to put his thumb on the scales and deny US citizens their representation in Congress because their Representative is also a new mother.”
The posturing and pithy remarks miss the meat of things by trying to score minor points about Republican hypocrisy at the expense of the larger issue: this is just one more attempt by Republicans to seize control of the reins of government without a vote.
We already know Republicans are hypocrites. It’s one of their defining features.
Yes, we should point it out, but not at the expense of distracting from yet another attempt to steal the US from its citizens and give it to billionaires. Pointing out Republican hypocrisy is the ultimate in low hanging fruit.
Maybe the Trump bible is translated differently. 🤷🏻♂️
>“There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”
>— Galatians 3:28
They have never read that line.
You can’t just “put women back in the kitchen” after you’ve designed society so every family has to have two working adults in order to function. The corporations and the government both have taken advantage of women going to work, have enjoyed the spoils of their labor, all while paying men and women far less income than we should be getting. I’m not saying there aren’t situations where one income can support the home, but that starts at a six figure job. Most middle class people don’t have one of those. Once again, this is the tone deaf Republicans only having a goal in mind, and no idea of the actual semantics of how to get there. If they try to force this upon us like everything else they’re doing, it’s going to be a total shitshow. Like everything else they’re doing.
I hate dehumanizing language in nearly every instance, but Johnson is the closest thing to a worthless piece of shit this side of the Oval Office.
He only wants our country to have family values if he can be the head of household, and in his family, women aren’t in Congress.
He’s a true profile of weakness
I **cannot wait** for the day when they search his hard drive.
The fact this surprises anyone goes to show the lack of logical thinking in America
Maga polluted with double standards. Complete nonsense
Johnson is a pussy
This isn’t why he sent everyone home. Don’t you know he had something big going on grindr?
Unfortunately, no one understood he’s probably an Old Testament guys
Johnson is a dominionist, people who are working to turn our country into a theocratic aristocratic oligarchy.
“pro-family” may be somewhat accurate in their minds, patriarchal straight marriages and families, the rest is Big Lies.

What Would Jesus Do?
He wouldn’t act like a republican.
>Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, R-La., once famously said that, to understand his “worldview,” all one needs to do is “pick up a Bible off your shelf and read it.”
The Old Testament, maybe… God knows that in practice, Johnson and the GOP wholeheartedly reject the teachings of Jesus Christ.
I have absolutely no doubt that mike johnson would not be able to tell the difference between the bible and the kids menu at mcdonalds.
This particular behavior is less anti-family than it is more specifically anti-women and even more specifically anti-women-working-outside-the-home.
Well yes. That’s because he’s fake Christian Christian Mike Johnson.
No other group commits more sin than christians.
Mike Johnson is not a Christian no matter the optics of praying and bible thumping. He is a just a little man trying to hide his sexuality by pretending to be religious and pretending he is straight. He doesn’t practice any of the Christian beliefs and uses them as a means of manipulation.
I’ve seen enough of conservative Christians to know that they talk about when Jesus was born and when he died, and ignore all the words attributed to him. The sacrifice is all that matters.
Mike Johnson is not a Christian. He is a Christian Nationalist. They have massive inferiority complexes.
The Twit referenced in the article:
>When my baby sister was born with two holes in her heart and needed a very risky surgery, my father, @SecDuffy, knew he needed be at home with his newborn daughter, my mother, and my eight siblings. So my dad resigned. What he did not do was demand an unconstitutional exception
“It’s totally acceptable that people have to quit their jobs for family medical emergencies” is certainly an opinion…
