Peninsula School of Art (PenArt) and the Climate Change Coalition of Door County (CCCDC) have partnered to launch Earth + Climate Arts Labs, a series of workshops designed to inspire and educate 3rd through 5th grade students by combining artistic exploration with environmental science.
Designed and led by teaching artist and strategic planning consultant Jill Newman, these hands-on workshops encourage students to engage with nature while developing skills in painting, drawing, collage and sculpture. Through creative expression and discovery, participants will gain a deeper understanding of local ecosystems and cultivate environmental stewardship.
These workshops, the first of their kind at PenArt, will run from April 9 to May 30, culminating in a special celebration showcasing students’ artistic reflections on nature and climate.
The program offers two separate workshop series: an after-school program for Gibraltar students and dedicated sessions for homeschooled youth.
The eight-week Gibraltar after-school program will provide a seamless transition from school to PenArt, with a walking escort and extended hours until 5:15 pm.
The homeschool program will provide a standards-based arts curriculum for students ages 8 to 13, integrating art and science education during school hours.
Supported by a grant from 100+ Women Who Care Door County, this initiative aligns with Peninsula School of Art’s strategic plan to expand its impact through innovative programming. It also reinforces CCCDC’s mission to educate and empower communities to navigate a changing climate.
A limited number of spots remain in this pilot program. To learn more or register a student, visit peninsulaschoolofart.org/climate-lab.
