5. The previous Greenland government wished to keep a low-tension area, and Denmark wished to cash in on the peace dividend after the cold war. But USA also diminished its defence of own bases in Greenland. They laid down 16 radar chain bases, and only kept the Pifuffik base with a skeleton crew. It went from 10000 men to a few hundred. If USA wished to strengthen their bases in Greenland, they could just do it, within existing agreements. And if they wished to mine rare earth minerals in Greenland, they could just ask for a concession – the greenlanders would welcome investors. The most ridiculous thing is, that USA for many years have been exporting large amounts of rare mineral ore to China.

6. 😂What the 2nd grade Trump Administration don't understand. Most Greenlander speaks 3 languages or more and have free education, free health care, social security and 4 – 6 weeks vacation. What they will never have in US.

Keep in mind that the US used to have THOUSANDS of troops, dosins of bases and more power in Greenland than Denmark did during and after WW2, but found it not viable to continue operations of that scale over the years, and are now down to just one base… Operating in Greenland is both massivly expensive and difficult, demanding and dangerous than most other situations, so having just one base in Greenland will often be 3 times the price of operating from rural Texas or somewhere like that…

   But as we have said many times already: If the US wants back to that original presence, or even having things beyond it, the danish government is entirely willing to let the americans operate basicly however they want, as long as they respect that Greenland is their own thing, and Denmark is too!

9. As a Dane, I recognize Denmark's responsibility and obligation to support Kalaallit Nunaat right to independence and sovereignty. USA's belief that they can buy a country and its people is an expression of neo-colonialism and is unacceptable! The people of Kalaallit Nunaat is strong and competent. Denmark will take responsibility for its history as a colonial power and stand shoulder to shoulder with Kalaallit Nunaat , to ensure freedom and equality for all.

14. – I don't think Vance has been informed by Trump about the relationship between the US and Greenland. Trump expresses a desire to buy Greenland, and he does so every single day.

    – There is very little the US cannot get in Greenland, you just have to sit down at the negotiating table, but the US cannot annex Greenland, by force or without.

    It may well be that Trump has promised Putin that he can get Greenland in order to make Putin the compliant one in the negotiations for peace in Ukraine… but Putin should know better that Trump's words often sound like platitudes…

    Trump has 53 votes out of 100 in the Senate, and it requires at least 67 votes from the Senate to say yes to Trump's and his wishes regarding Greenland. – What about NATO (paragraph 5), and the EU… ??

    Greenland belongs to the Inuit and Greenlandic people, and it is part of the "KINGDOM OF DENMARK".

29. The Americans' Garbage Dump
    Most people know the story of the military town "Camp Century", which was located in the middle of the ice sheet, and which, when the US left it, was allowed to sink into the ice with all that it entailed in terms of pollutants such as radioactive wastewater, fuel oil, construction debris and PCBs. Unfortunately, Camp Century is just one of the remnants that the US military has spread all over Greenland. Up and down our coasts lies waste from various large and small military areas, and inside the ice sheet there are – in addition to the Camp Century town – several smaller military stations and two large so-called DYE stations that are slowly sinking into the ice.

    When the Americans left our international airport area, Kangerlussuaq (which was then called Søndre Strømfjord and was half military and half civilian), they promised to clean up after themselves.

    The site had been used by the US to dump old ammunition, after which a layer of soil was scraped over it and then the whole thing was left behind. In the lakes around Kangerlussuaq, the Americans poured barrels of diesel oil to prevent mosquitoes from breeding and bothering their soldiers while they were there. Those lakes stink to this day from pollution.

32. Greenland can never be independent. So few people on such a geopolitical important place. It's so unrealistic of them to think that. They are best with Denmark.

34. Denmark is taking care of the military naval sovereignty, by its fishery inspection frigates with helicopters patrolling most of the area, as well as smaller vessels patrolling the south coast. Also the Sirius patrol; a dog sledge patrol are patrolling the northern inland and coastline in oldschool maner. Since nothing else can run up there in that climate with no modern infrastructure. US have their secret stuff going on, as they always have, on the Thule base. What Vance is doing besides postering is unknown to us all. but I believe that the US just wants Denmark to yank up its military presence on Greenland to make it safer from the Chinese. 
    Dont you worry Vance Denmark has done a great job as history tells us. Everything has gone well so far hasn't it???  
    However one should embrace the shakeup since it awakens us to look at what we have at this time. I think that the greenlanders understand that US is a poor substitute for Denmark. 
    Denmark also takes care of hospitals, schools and airport etc. So all is good in the north Atlantic region at least in the areas where Denmark has any responsibility.
