SALT LAKE CITY — Authorities in Duchesne County are asking for help locating a man from Finland who went missing in March. They say he flew in last month to go search for treasure in the Uintas in the dead of winter.
The Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office said 28-year-old Onni Raassina flew into Salt Lake City on March 5 and took a yellow cab straight to Moon Lake Lodge, out in the Uinta Mountains.
Capt. John Crowley said that was the last time anyone saw him.
“He read stories about Moon Lake, buried treasure at Moon Lake, and so he wanted to go up and see it.”
Based on the surveillance footage they got from the airport, police believe Raassina went straight out into winter conditions without the proper equipment.

“Once you get around the lake, the snow goes from 2-3 feet to about 6-8 feet deep and there is avalanche danger.”
Authorities are still looking for him, but are asking anyone with information to give them a call.
