Scientists and organisations from both nations have been partners in space research for a long time. This memorandum of understanding serves as a testament to their joint work and the intention to expand it.
Ukraine is interested in Latvia’s expertise and cooperation in science, research, and space entrepreneurship. During a meeting between Jānis Paiders, Acting State Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Science, and Volodymyr Mikheiev, Acting Head of the State Space Agency of Ukraine, Latvia underlined its support for Ukraine, particularly in peaceful space cooperation, and its readiness to participate in joint projects.
According to Jānis Paiders, this is a significant step towards strengthening future cooperation between Latvia and Ukraine in space exploration.
“We are confident that this memorandum will promote scientific development, valuable innovations, and strengthen both countries’ roles in the global space sector,” said Paiders.
In addition, in cooperation with a representative from the Ministry of Economics, discussions were held regarding opportunities to support Ukraine in launching space-related business ventures.
Both parties agreed on further steps, including organising joint webinars with higher education institutions involved in research and science, as well as industry representatives, to develop a specific cooperation action plan.
