Before there was a federal Department of Government efficiency the state of Nebraska implemented a similar program in 2023.

The program that was a result of a bill introduced by then State Senator Tom Briese which calls for an outside firm to conduct an efficiency review of state government.  Now the State Treasurer, Briese is touting a recent report that identified $ 531 million in state spending.

Even though the treasurer’s office is not impacted by the review Briese tells News Talk WJAG his office is taking steps to make it more efficient.  Brise said “We reviewed all of our contracts and eliminated some contracts.  We also reviewed all of our facilities and we closed one of our facilities, the Omaha office location wasn’t paying it’s way we felt so we closed that office.”

Briese made his comments during an interview with News Talk WJAG last week.
