Is there any links in the message to make you believe it’s a scam? If not follow up in WhatsApp. Alarm bells are ringing.
Just don’t share the code and you’ll be ok. Also set up two step verification on WhatsApp.
I had something similar happen and I had a ‘friend’ say that accident my sent their WhatsApp code to my phone and would I sent it back to them. They had been hacked and scammer was trying to get access to all numbers in their contacts. They can’t do anything if you don’t share that code. So delete it now.
It’s not a scam but it means someone was trying to enter a different number and entered yours by accident. They can’t do anything without that code in the second message though.
this looks like a scam where they request an access code but then trick you into into giving it to them
a common application is when buying something online, e.g., ok im going to send you a 6-digit code and you repeat it back to me so I know you’re human. BUT the 6-code you’ll get is actually from [Whatsapp] and if you give it out they’ll register your number as their own
never ever sign up to anything with your mobile number is the best advice
Quite common back in my country, they trick you to get the code and then they pretend to be you to friends and family, and ask them for money.
I never get scam calls or texts or anything.
I’m sure having no social media helps.
I’m also very careful with where I put details.
Completely unrelated but is that another Pixel 6 user in Ireland I see? Hello my twin!
Definitely a scam glad to see you’ve set up 2FA now. My Dad got hit with one of these a while ago a “friend” text him asking for the code and like an eejit he gave it and the scammer got access to his WhatsApp and all my dads contacts. I text into a family/friends WhatsApp group warning that it wasn’t my dad texting them and the scammer then trolled us for ages sending in cheeky messages and pictures of dicks into the group chat.. scammer eventually got bored and my dad got his WhatsApp back. He learnt the hard way and has 2FA on now, can’t lie and say it wasn’t amusing. My mother was furious at the scammer sending him angry texts, fun evening.
