  1. The US does not make much but they are a services superpower. Place duties on their services. When the accounting firms, consulting firms, software, cloud computing etc bid on contracts make sure they have to include duties in their bids. Tax their technicians, consultants etc. This will force them localize their bids. It is a nuclear option but they started the insanity.

  2. Define winning. If winning means you’ll adapt and move forward, yep you can win. Comparing your outcomes to US outcomes to see who wins is a waste of energy and misplaced effort. The US doesn’t want to play anymore. Get to know the rest of the world better.

  3. More like “They’ll lose harder”. And I’ll take that.

  4. I take solace in the fact that the US tourism industry will basically dissolve as people around the globe will avoid going there like the plague going forward.

A couple steel factories and automotive plants that will be swallowed up by BYD eventually is a stupid trade off for all those tourism dollars lol.

  5. Time to shift trade and supply chains away from the US. Leave them to it.

  6. Negotiations are supposed to be a win-win where both sides get something. It’s not a good deal if one side wins. That’s the problem with the magats of today. Everything must be I win you lose.

  7. I guess “win” sounds better than “survive”

  8. Trump’s point of pride is “a good economy”. They just need to keep the US economy bad long enough for the elections in 2 years. Eventually Trump will get desperate to make a deal. Otherwise Democrats will pickup seats in government.

  9. I mean it won’t be hard when Canada has a giant network of former allies we just fucked over royally to draw from. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that if we tariff the entire world simultaneously while the entire world positions against us in trade simultaneously, WE are going to end up fucked.

  10. -after punching self in the face several times-

    Have they surrendered yet?

  11. Nobody wins in a Trade War. Some just lose more but what is frightening about all this to me is it can lead to real war.

We’re now entering a time where all the super powers are being threatened and lets be frank… they’re all in decline but at varying rates and in different ways. The fact that there is trade between us makes any escalation not worth entering a war since trade between us is more advantageous in a global market… but the tariffs are now changing that environment.

Nations in decline have a tendency to lash out and take risks. There’s nothing more dangerous than a country like China where billions of dollars are being lost in the country and at the same time they are planning on invading Taiwan. These Tariffs risk an escalation and provoke the situation… this is just one example of a possible scenario. This is a very dangerous time imo.

  12. Those are the wrong words to use with someone like Trump who has NPD.
You have to say we will loose but then  make the U.S   loose worse and let their governors, senators and congressmen take him out.  Trump himself will never back down and admit defeat.

  13. Unfortunately the states has alienated itself from the rest of the world. The world will survive and the American people will hurt for it.

  14. I don’t think anyone benefits from a trade war. Canada just needs to wait Trump out until the midterms, especially since he campaigned on lowering prices but hasn’t delivered. Hopefully, voters will hold him accountable.

  15. “We will win”. But he won’t say what.

Like a subcontractor saying “We will be there on Monday” while never saying which Monday.

  16. so far, not looking to good, maybe instead of complaining you should start negotiating

  17. When he says “we” just remember you’re not part of that.

  18. 70% of Canada’s total exports go to the US, It’s going to be hard on Canadians but they can win if they are willing to make sacrifices.
